The wish

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

God created the donkey and said to him. You will be a donkey. You will work un-tiringly from sunrise to sunset carrying burdens on your back. You will eat grass, you will have no intelligence and you will live 50 years.

The donkey answered I will be a donkey, but to live 50 years is much. Give me only 20 years God granted his wish.

God created the dog and said to him You will guard the house of man. You will be his best Friend. You will eat the scraps that he gives you and you will live 30 years. You will be a dog.

The dog answered Sir, to live 30 years is too much, give me only 15 years. God granted his wish.

God created the monkey and said to him: You will be a monkey. You will swing from branch to branch doing tricks. You will be amusing and you will live 20 years.

The monkey answered To live 20 years is too much, give me only 10 years. God granted his wish.

Finally God created man and said to him: You will be man, the only rational creature on the face of the earth. You will use your intelligence to become master over all the animals. You will dominate the world and you will live 20 years.

Man responded Sir, I will be a man but to live only 20 years is very little, give me the 30 years that the donkey refused, the 15 years that the dog did not want and the 10 years the monkey refused.

God granted man's wish

And since then, man lives 20 years as a man , marries and spends 30 years like a donkey, working and carrying all the burdens on his back. Then when his children are grown, he lives 15 years like a dog taking care of the house and eating whatever is given to him,so that when he is old, he can retire and live 10 years like a monkey, going from house to house and from one son or daughter to another doing tricks to amuse his grandchildren.

Never cry

Once, there was guy, who was in love with a girl. She wasn't the most beautiful and Rockingbut for him, she was everything.

He used to dream about her, about spending the rest of life with her. His friends told him,"why do you dream so much about her, when you don't even know if she loves you or not?First tell her your feelings, and get to know if she likes you or not".

He felt that was the right way. The girl knew that this guy loves her.

.
.
.
.
.

One day when he proposed, she rejected him.

His friends thought he would take wrong decision and ruin his life.To their surprise, he was not depressed. When they asked him how was it that he is not sad, he replied...

why should I feel bad? I lost one who never loved me, and she lost the one who really loved and cared for her.

World's largest keyboard

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Jean Shin who design this interactive sculpture simply gave the name TEXTile. As the name suggest it's as smooth as the clothe made in Textile Mill.

The design includes more than 22,528 computers and 192 custom keycap which are attached with fabric, a custom keyboard and software assets as well as interactive video projection and painted aluminum frames. It sets out line by line transcript of the electronic communication that the artist and manufacturing in creating enabling it to sculpture in its own archives! More information on World's Longest Keyboard with 4 more pics after the jump.

The sculpture was created as a comment on the extent of the impact that e-mail and other virtual communication has had on our lives I suppose if a banner saying "e-mail is a good thing" would have made the too!

The first three ranks of the civil e-mails key assets that allow visitors to type in their own messages that are projected onto the opposite end of the fabric. This amazing invention (world’s longest keypad) is placed at The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia.

A dog named faith

This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs - 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which needed to be amputated. He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him.

His first owner also did not think that he could survive. Therefore, he was thinking of 'putting him to sleep'. By this time, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him. She was determined to teach and train this dog to walk by himself. Therefore she named him 'Faith'.

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let him feel the movements. Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him to stand up and jump around. Even the other dog at home also helped to encourage him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jumped to move forward. After further training in the snow, he now c an walk like a human being.

Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he just attracts all the people around him. He is now becoming famous on the international scene. He has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows.

There is even one book entitled 'With a little faith' being published about him. He was even considered to appear in one of Harry Potter movies.

His present owner Jude Stringfellew has given up her teaching post and plans to take him around the world to preach that even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul'.

In life there are always undesirable things. Perhaps one will feel better if one changes the point of view from another direction. I hope this message will bring fresh new ways of thinking to everyone and that everyone can appreciate and be thankful for each beautiful day that follows. Faith is the continual demonstration of the Strength of Life!!

The challenge

Photobucket

Have you realized the some of us are also living in a pond but most of the time tires and dull? In our lives, "sharks" are new challenges to keep us alive. If you are steadily conquering challenges, you are happy. Your challenges keep you energized. Don’t create success and revel in it in a state of inertia. You have the resources, skills and abilities to make a difference. Put a shark in your tank and see how far you can really go!

Oftimes we blame the sharks in our life when they actually propel us to progress further.

Indeed, our rivals keep us in our toes!

The tale of the computer mouse

Saturday, October 18, 2008

This year the humble and much overlooked computer mouse turned 45 years old.

Douglas Engelbart at the Stanford Research Institute invented the first mouse in 1963. Looking more like a wooden box with a cord hanging out more than anything else, (pictured) the mouse was so named because it did look like it had the tail of a mouse running out of it.

Engelbart, although he had patented it, never received any royalties for his handy device, as the patent ran out before it became widely used in personal computers.

Some analysts now predict that the mouse will be obsolete within the next 3 - 5 years.

Hidden symbols

have you noticed the hidden symbol in any of these corporate logos?

Photobucket

The ‘arrow’ that you can see between the E and the x in this logo, was introduced to underscore speed and precision, which are part of the positioning of the company.

Photobucket

The SUN Microsystems logo is a wonderful example of symmetry and order. It was a brilliant observation that the letters u and n while arranged adjacent to each other look a lot like the letter S in a perpendicular direction. Spectacular.

Photobucket

The above for an editing studio, the logo perfectly attempts to convey what they do.

Photobucket

The above are two magazines from the Readers Digest stable. Again, the attempt to communicate what it is about quite figuratively through the logo catches attention.

Photobucket

This logo of a hair stylist for the cheeky humour it brings to the (dressing) table.

Photobucket

This was a logo created for a puzzle game called Cluenatic. This game involves unravelling four clues. The logo has the letters C, L, U and E arranged as a maze. and from a distance, the logo looks like a key.

Photobucket

This logo is too good. For the name Eight, they have used a font in which each letter is a minor adaptation of the number 8.

Photobucket

Eighty-20 is a small consulting company which does sophisticated financial modeling,
as well as some solid database work. All their work is highly quantitative and relies on some serious computational power, and the logo is meant to convey it.

People first guess that 20% of the squares are darkened, but that turns out to be false after counting them. The trick is to view the dark squares as 1’s and the light squares as 0’s. Then the top line reads 1010000 and the bottom line reads 0010100, which represent 80 and 20 in binary.

Kinda like the surreal green screen of The Matrix, they want us to read stuff in binary.

Photobucket

You might think the arrow does nothing here. But it says that amazon.com has everything from a to z and it also represents the smile brought to the customer’s face. Wow, that is quite deep!

The five C's

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

There is a story about a man who sold hot dogs by the roadside. He was illiterate, so he never read newspapers. He was hard of hearing, so he never listened to the radio. His eyes were weak, so he never watched television. But enthusiastically, he sold lots of hot dogs. His sales and profit went up. He ordered more meat and got himself a bigger and a better stove. As his business was growing, the son, who had recently graduated from college, joined his father.

Then something strange happened.

The son asked, "Dad, aren't you aware of the great recession that is coming our way?"

The father replied, "No, but tell me about it."

The son said, "The international situation is terrible. The domestic is even worse. We should be prepared for the coming bad time."

The man thought that since his son had been to college, read the papers, and listened to the radio, he ought to know and his advice should not be taken lightly. So the next day, the father cut down his order for the meat and buns, took down the sign and was no longer enthusiastic. Very soon, fewer and fewer people bothered to stop at his hot dog stand. And his sales started coming down rapidly. The father said to his son, "Son, you were right. We are in the middle of a recession. I am glad you warned me ahead of time."

What is the moral of the story?

1. Many times we confuse intelligence with good judgment.
2. A person may have high intelligence but poor judgment.
3. Choose your advisers carefully and use your judgment.

A person can and will be successful with or without formal education if they have the 5 C's:

• Character
• Commitment
• Conviction
• Courtesy
• Courage

The tragedy is that there are many walking encyclopedias that are living failures.
